Showcasing my work as part of the Postgraduate Fine Art show at Camberwell College of Art allowed me to put the work into context with other artists work, with each other, where the wall pieces complement the floor pieces, as well as in a conversation with the people in its environment. Visitors facing life-size prints, standing eye to eye with them, becoming part of the play between what is alive and what is no more.
Using Lithograph stones as plinths for the ‘Erlkönig’ series not only emphasises the matrix that made the prints become alive but also resembles gravestones, laying heavy between the visitors feet and creating an atmosphere of death lingering around.
Allowing visitors to get close to the work and actually having to step closer to be able to read the words creates a sense of intimacy with the work that makes it more relatable with one’s own circumstances and emotions.
